I love It
Posted 2 years ago
OK - I don't live in NYC, but I was traveling there once a month this past year for school (Institute for Integrative Nutrition) - my ladies and I went out with a bang on our last weekend and ate at Gusto's. The owner, Alberto, came and talked to our school and we just loved his vibe!!! So, once entering his restaurant - i just LOVED IT - the atmosphere rocked my world - the food rocked my world - my people rocked my world - everything!! Growing up in Florida - I just love open air venues/restaurants/bars..etc. I felt like I was back in FL again - not in hectic NYC. I had the organic/grass-fed beef dish (it was the special of the day) and my friends and I all shared every dessert - all of them were AWESOME! The organic peach smoothies were DEEEELISSSHHH!!!!
I just felt SO GOOD eating here - seeing the USDA symbol everywhere - knowing I could look at the menu and not have to study it and figure out what would be best - i knew I could choose anything and it will make me feel good. I never felt rushed, and our waitress was very informative. This restaurant is SO WORTH IT!! I'm hoping this will start a ripple effect - come to Williamsburg, VA please!!! :) I will be visiting again when I'm back in NYC!!!

Tall chairs, dry food
Posted 2 years ago by bephf
My wife and I were intrigued by the appearance of this place and it appeared to be full of happy diners, so we gave it a shot. We ended up dropping $40 for a pretty lousy brunch for 2. Everything was just really dry and unflavorful. It's a shame because organic food can be very tasty, but they may be doing more harm than good for the organic movement here. But hey, the chairs are really tall.

What a ripoff

Open layout with great skylights and outdoor tables made this spot seemingly a delightful summer choice for brunch.
The chicken sandwich my dining partner ordered came dry, dry, and dry. Even the bread that the chicken was on was dry. I'm also not used to eating chicken sandwiches without any flavor/cheese or sauce for that matter, so when I asked for ketchup, I don't appreciate the waiter looking at me like I had two heads. I also ordered the Steak Piadini, which is like a quesadilla, except much worse. This was basically dry "organic" overcooked steak tips with melted mozzerella and wet sauteed onions wrapped in a tortilla that pretty much tasted like matzoh bread, except matzoh bread is better.
The waiters, or lack thereof, seem to be running all over the place without any sense of why. There's only on thing worse than eating bad food, and that's overpaying for it.
I was furious leaving this place and I'm furious just thinking about it. You couldn't pay me to come back.
Good lemonade though.
